VPN (Virtual Private Network)

For employees IT services offers VPN accounts to remotely access employee U: and S: (formerly M): drives. The VPN account allows employees to connect to their U: drive, www folder, shared folders on U: drive, and work on files remotely as if they were at their on-campus computer. The VPN account can be used on campus with a wireless connection, or from off campus with a department-approved VPN connection. Approval must be granted by an employee's Dean or Director before the account can be set up.

VPN Setup Procedure

Employees who need this remote connection option may request a VPN account through IT Services. The VPN request form is available by download (see below), or by contacting the NSCC IT Services Call Center and asking for the file NSCC-VPN-Agreement.pdf.

NSC IT Services will install the required software for Windows OS on college-owned laptops only. Macs require purchasing suitable VPN software for that OS.

NSC IT Services recommends VPN Tracker, which can be purchased at an educational discount. This software is available from Equinux (note, the prices shown there are not at the educational discount).  The personal edition of VPN Tracker at our educational price is $103 for a single license (as of 10/1/2011).

After obtaining a valid VPN account, employees wanting to use the VPN software on their personal home system can download the VPN setup instructions and software for home use. Note that access to those files is restricted and credentials are needed to access that information. The office staff in IB3303 will provide the credentials to you after you return the VPN Access Form to IB3303 with appropriate Division approval signatures.
